Daft Punk

Paris musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem- Christo (born February 8, 1974) and Thomas Bangalter (born January 3, 1975) form the famous duo of Daft Punk. An all time great electronic music collaboration, the name ‘Daft Punk’ stuck to them after a review in the British music magazine, Melody Maker, reviewed their Beach-Boy inspired guitar group ‘Darlin’, ‘a bunch of daft punk’.

They started creating waves literally with their debut single ‘The New Wave,’ a limited release on Soma in 1994. ‘Da Funk’ and instant commercial success followed the very next year. Their debut album ‘Homework’ included ‘Da Funk’ and is still considered one of the most influential albums with acid house, electro, and techno styles. The distinctive video of the single ‘Around the world’ from Homework, made them a name to reckon with worldwide.

Cut to 2001 and they came up with the slick ‘Discovery’ with synthesized pop oriented style. The album zoomed to # 2 in the UK charts with its single ‘One More Time’ becoming a rage across dance floors. The other singles like ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’ and ‘Digital Love’ too swept the charts in UK and US.

The duo is noted for the use of strong visuals with memorable characters. In fact they have collaborated with leading video producers including Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze. Fans in US got to know them better after a special video presentation on Toonami which airs on Cartoon Network.

2005 saw them release Human After All a 10-track album recorded in an astonishing eight weeks time! Their greatest hits CD/DVD collection contains some great foot tapping music for their ardent fans. Their performance in the 2006 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival before thousands of screaming fans shows that the Daft Punk magic is still working and going strong.
