Prodigy

The Prodigy is a hard dance/rave act consisting of Liam Howlett, Keith Flint, and Maxim. This British act has been rocking dance floors with their fabulous tracks and unique sound.

Formed in Essex, they first tasted success with ‘What Evil Lurks’, which was released in 1991. The band’s first live perfomrance was at the famous Four Aces in Hackney, London. Their ‘Charly’ was released later and made them instant stars in the British rave scene of the time. Their first full length album,’The Prodigy Experience’ followed and is still widely regarded as one of the best examples of rave/breakbeat genre ever to be recorded.

They were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 1994 after the release of their smash hit ‘Music for the jilted generation’. Then came a sereis of hits like ‘Their Law’ and ‘break And Enter 95’. Their big break in the US came with the release of ‘Firestarter’. The track also topped the charts in UK. They also performed for the first time in the prestigious Lollapalooza festival, during this time.

Their third album ‘The Fat of the Land’ was released in 1997 and was considered a new milestone in the mainstream dance music scene. The album featured punk like vocals, breaks, and their signature style synth which were synonymous with the band. The album placed them firmly among the most successful and famous acts in the hard dance genre. The album in fact entered both the UK and US charts at number one. Their best selling single ‘Breathe’ released during 1997 was in fact part of this album.

The year 1999 saw them come up with ‘Dirtchamber Sessions Volume 1’ was followed by ‘Baby’s Got a Temper’ in 2002. The very same year they were named as one of the ’50 bands to see before you die’ by ‘Q’ Magazine. 2004 saw them release their album ‘Always outnumbered, never outgunned’, followed by their phenomenally successful single ‘Memphis Bells’. The Prodigy continues to belt them out hard and in regular intervals.
