DJ Paul, is one of the producers of the academy award winning Memphis rap group, ‘Three 6 Mafia’ and one among the ‘Hypnotize Minds’. Born Paul Beauregard in 1977 he has played an important part in the South’s rise to prominence, into regions wehre once the East and West Coast dominated, with particular emphasis to rap music.DJ Paul was prodigiously talented and started off by playing at local gigs in Memphis.

The ‘Three 6 Mafia’ in fact won an Academy Award for ‘Best Song’ for the movie ‘Hustle & Flow’. DJ Paul rose from humble beginings of the underground phenomenon in Memphis, later on releasing numerous albums. DJ Paul specialised in dark tracks driven by deep basslines and heavy beats with strong vocals often termed as haunting. This would become his characteristic sound later on. He was part of the film ‘Choices’ (2001) which had all the Three 6 Mafia’s collective. DJ Paul along with his friends started off initially producing their own tracks and working collectively with other Memphis rappers to rap over the beats.They used to released the tracks locally. These early day tracks would resurface later on , once they had become famous. The debut album of Three 6 Mafia ‘Mystic Stylez’, was an instant success. DJ Paul and Juicy J under the alias ‘Hypnotize Minds’ produced and released several albums a year , throughout the late 90s. Their ‘When the Smoke Clears’, released in 2000 debuted at #6 on the Billboard charts.
